A little more:
I see Jesus as more of a liberal than a conservative. I was at the dollar store getting party favors for my kid's eighth birthday tomorrow. They had the entire New Testament on CD for a buck. I'd been listening to Etta James and Johnny Cash all day, but I was in the mood for a change. It was only a buck.
In giving the beatitudes, Christ said that the poor, those in mourning, those who are merciful, and those who are peacemakers are blessed. He tells us to love our neighbor, and to turn the other cheek toward those who persecute us.
Whether you believe in the divinity of Christ or not, I think Christ spoke some timeless truths during the Sermon on the Mount.
This seems in conflict with some of the statements made by our friend Randy. (Like the ones about killing UFA after he was detained.)I wrote earlier about appearing on the South Bend Tribuine's political panel with Harry Weston. Harry and I disagree about many things but he wisely reminded me that we should never let politics or religion interfere with a good friendship. He was right. I saw him last night at the Tribune Office. Here we are:
